When I was a young girl in elementary school, my family and I and two women from our local Christian Science church were at an upscale restaurant when suddenly I became nauseated. Seeing my situation, my mother took my hand and we ran for the restroom. When we found the restroom, the nausea was completely gone. As we walked back to the table, I became hungry. My mother, seeing the healing, asked me to thank the Christian Science practitioner who had been praying for me during this whole event and was one of the women from church at our table. After I was re-seated, the child’s plate that had been previously ordered for me before this incident occurred was served, which I quickly consumed and properly digested, and from that day on I was convinced of the power of God to heal me.
Through my adolescence, I was healed of frequent headaches by turning the Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I often worked with these two passages, “Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, ...” (Science and Health, p. 393:18-20) and “Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body.” (p. 391:9-12)
As an adult, while staying at friend’s house, I became nauseated late in the evening when the rest of the household was getting ready for bed. I was able to call a Christian Science Practitioner for help and spoke privately with her. She agreed to start praying immediately, and when I hung up the phone this verse from the Bible came to me, which is part of a song sung by soloists in Christian Science churches: “Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.” (I Chronicles 29:11) I knew from this verse that God was all-powerful, and that he made “all that is in the heaven and in the earth” and that no bad food had the power to harm me. I saw that I lived in His kingdom and that I was governed by Him and by nothing else. After a few hours of constant persistent prayer, I went to bed, completely free of any discomfort, rejoicing in the love of God’s power.
